How SIP is Calculated

SIP returns are calculated using the future value of an annuity due formula, where each monthly installment compounds for its respective remaining tenure.

Mathematical Formula
M = P × [ ((1 + i)ⁿ - 1) / i ] × (1 + i)
Formula Variables & Logic

M is maturity corpus, P is monthly investment, i is monthly return rate (Annual Return / 12 / 100), and n is total months (Years × 12).

Worked Example: 15-Year Mutual Fund SIP
Sample Calculation
Scenario: Investing $500 (or ₹10,000) every month for 15 years at an expected 12% annual return.
Step-by-step breakdown
  1. 1Monthly deposit = 10,000
  2. 2Total invested over 15 years (180 months) = 180 × 10,000 = ₹18,00,000
  3. 3Estimated maturity value = ₹50,45,760
  4. 4Wealth gain = ₹50,45,760 - ₹18,00,000 = ₹32,45,760
Estimated Result
Total invested is ₹18,00,000 and total estimated wealth is ₹50,45,760.
