How Gratuity is Calculated

Under the Payment of Gratuity Act, gratuity is computed as 15 days of wages for every completed year of service, using 26 working days in a month.

Mathematical Formula
Gratuity = (15 × Last Drawn Basic Salary × Completed Years) / 26
Formula Variables & Logic

Service of 6 months or more in the final year is rounded up to a full year for gratuity calculation.

Worked Example: Gratuity After 8 Years of Service
Sample Calculation
Scenario: An employee leaves a company after 8 years of service with a last drawn basic salary of ₹65,000.
Step-by-step breakdown
  1. 1Gratuity = (15 × 65,000 × 8) / 26
  2. 2Gratuity = 7,800,000 / 26 = ₹3,00,000
Estimated Result
The gratuity payout is ₹3,00,000.
